After 190,000 miles, the 6.5 in the 96 suburban kept dying randomly. It would restart immediately, and while dead the dash instrumentation stayed on. The injection pump was suspect. We pulled the codes and got a P1216 - great. We picked up a rebuilt DS4-5288 yesterday, and we'll get to installing it over the weekend.

Truck setup:
KD 3.5" exhaust, 97+ cooling upgrades w/ 180s, 9 blade fan with KD clutch. Everything else is bone stock.

Question:
After we get the pump installed, and the timing marks aligned, what is the ideal timing for this particular setup? I know 1.94 and 1.7 BTDC have been popular choices, but is it still the best choice given no power addons?

Thanks in advance. smile.gif

If you put the replacement pump in the same spot as the original you won't have any trouble with setting codes. You can be "slightly" off and still be good. To change the timing you will need a Tech II. TDC Offset of -1.94 sounds real nice! A pyrometer and a set of high flow injectors should come next.
