AM General is Re-Entering Civilian Vehicle Marketplace with Humvee C-Series Kit Car for $59k which does not include an engine. The article in the following link states that the drivetrain can be a Duramax/Allison.

Interesting. Thanks for posting the link.

The pessimist in me thinks AMG is near the end of HMMWV production, and it wants to sell off its inventory of on-hand and already-in-the-pipeline parts. I know there's been considerable competition in the industry for the next generation of light-utility vehicle - from Ford as one example. In short, the current HMMWV production is near its end, so if anyone wants one, don't wait long...

Getting emissions certification is so very expensive, and is why they're likely offering the vehicle without an engine. AMG did sell a few H1s with the Duramax (about 750), but stopped because the emissions cert cost pushed the low production vehicle well outside the business model. I toured the AMGeneral HMMWV plant in mid 2006, and saw the last civilian H1 with the Duramax (included a photo of it in an article I did then). They are so very cool...

Hmmm.

The pessimist in me says "get your Optimizer/P400 now while they're still making them".

Not good news for the 6.5 crowd and new blocks in the future....when the HMMWV finally goes away and with no outlook for a civilian powered H1/Hummer, AMG will spool down production and the breed will eventually die off completely.

All that will be left is to scrounge up used AMG engines or china parts.

Happens to all vehicles eventually I guess.

I just didn't want it to happen to mine.....:(

Sure enough, confirmation the next AMG JTLV won't be 6500 Ptimizer powered:

The lightweight, fuel efficient and high performance Optimizer 3200 engine powering BRV-O also will be exhibited at the expo, along with other products of General Engine Products and General Transmission Products, subsidiaries of AM General. The six-cylinder, 3.2 liter, sequentially-turbocharged engine is rated at 300 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. GEP will also introduce its proposed solution for the Next Generation Combat Engine based on Optimizer 3200 technology.
