If you have had one or more FSD failures, please indicate where your FSD was mounted and how long it lasted.

If you have less than 100,000 miles on your FSD and it has not failed, please do not vote. If you vote you need to provide an answer for each question.

Please vote only once (per failure ;) )

I recently replaced a pump and fsd on the 95 burb. According to my GM mechanic it looked like the original at 296000 miles. I also had a truck go about 10 months and 8000 miles before a pump and fsd crapped out. Go figure.

Is there anyway to tell if it is original?
My truck has no warrantee history (except probably the wiper recall at 195,000) so I guess it went past 120K without and fuel problems at all but I don't know for sure so I didn't vote. (recall was done after I had the vin checked for warrantee history)

I bought truck with 186,000 miles because original owner was tired of replacing pump and it did not run at time of purchase.
Second pump at around 110,000 and third at 155,000. i replased fsd at 186,000 AGAIN at 210,000 and now i have to replace AGAIN at 257,000. Is it time to replace pump yet?

Thanks for starting this poll, JohnC

I voted and guessed that the FSD ran <75K. Guess was based on purchasing the truck used, as many of us have, and not knowing the history for the first 50,000 mi. I am skeptical that it was original, however, because I had a green tag IP on a '95. FYI, I got a warranty pump installed at 118,500 2 months ago.

Good Day!

95 pickup, repl. FSD @ 163K miles 11 Oct 02, first symtoms ~ 200K miles on 20 May 04, tightened hex nuts 22 May 04 (three of four a little loose), became definitely unreliable 22 May 04.

I love this truck, but

I have a 99 SUB with a 6.5 Bone stock where is my FSD located and please do not tell me it is under the intake manifold. the only problem I have been having is the turbo boost sensor and then I get a lot of black smoke out of the tail pipe but only seems to happen when the AC is on and it looks like the voltage is low I went to the point of changing the ALT. to a 140 AMP. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

If only I could see the nembers on the still mounted pmd? But the pmd has been improved over time. Think back to the screws issues.

i am a new member. I just got approval to join the forum. I have a 1996 GMC K2500-6.5TD with 167K miles, it just started stalling and stopping all of a sudden. While driving at any speed It may shut off. While ideling in park It will run and intermittenly stall or shut down. I contacted Mr. Kennedy and he personally told me that I probally need to install the PMD kit on his website. I am not disputing Mr. Kennedy, but some secondary advice from any members to this site will be greately appreciated... Thanks

Purchased truck with 43K Miles:

Pump was already replaced at 22k Miles:

Pump Mounted Driver Failed at 46K APPROX Miles.

PMD Mounted on Cooler, mounted on Fenderwell
with Fan, Failed at Approx 52K Miles.

PMD Mounted on Cooler, cooled by AC Air under dash
Still working.

DID retest all Failed PMD's , They failed
from 2- 5 weeks after install under dash, even with AC Cooling, ( did not try " re Torque }

Note: Did idle truck in Florida with A/C
running with all installed PMD's.
May be reason for early fails.

To bad this is no data on build dates of failed PMD's. My guess would be on 96 and newer, for a few model years ).

My 96 is the worst GM I have owned for overall
quality. I think there was a strong push to cut costs ( vs improve Quality )

purchased new. now on 6th pump.
pump 5 installed at 95K. pump w. PMD on pump.
pump 6 installed at 114K and moved PMD to FSD cooler on manifold.

just started throwing DTC 36 with throttle hesitation, and hard cold start. so pump #7 will be next at 128,000 Kilometers. where to put the PMD this time?

I bought my truck 95 with 170,000 on it.I checked with the dealer pump was replaced at 66,000. I have 289,000+ on it now.I don't do alot of heavy towing. I wonder if that could be a factor in early failures?

Have about 2500 miles on my SOL-D and everything appears to be OK. ;) I noticed one day that after shutting the engine off for about a half hour that when I restarted it, the engine sputtered a little when taking off at a good clip. I plan on changing the OPS and see if that takes care of the problem.

There has been a steady trickle of voting on this poll for a long time, but the results don't seem to change much. The results, as far as I can see, only show what we all know: These things seem to fail a lot. So, I'm going to let the polls slip slowly into oblivion and make room at the top for something more dynamic. You can still vote and post; it just won't stay at the top all the time.
