Heard some issuses with the rear on the last corner by the house on the way home, then when i turned in the driveway it sounded like i was in park. Anyway got her apart today and the gear that activates the posi unit is in pieces, and the governer is twisted, lastly the spider gears didnt enjoy the gear running through the teeth. Anyway, the bills 500 just for parts and wont be here till tuesday... nothing like having your truck sitting on a hoist in your barn.

Man, I'm glad you're talking about your trucks' rear end. This is a family type outfit here :D

I just had the same problem. Just got mine in today. Not good to put truck in four wheel drive on dry pavement. I had to replace differential assembly.

Out of curiosity, what model truck, and what rear do you have?If you have the one ton 14 bolt you must have really been pushing it .These things are extremely tough.

If it's the 14 bff, get a detroit and a new case and new gears and go that route. The gov loc is good as far as factory offered rears go but I would rather a detroit anyday

I dont know what all parts you have to replace, but IIRC the Detroit locker for the 14 bolt rear is only around 350.00 . It uses your existing carrier. The detroits I have on my play toy were over 500.00 each, but were carrier replacements. I'd definately look into the Detroit. They are the toughest out there, and DO allow one wheel to turn FASTER (being pushed)than the other when cornering, but locks up when pulling- neither wheel can slow down.

When I ordered my`92K3500,the posi was one of the few options I passed-up.When the Gov-lok goes,it won`t go alone. In the aftermarket you can get much stronger and effective units.

To install a detroit in a 14 bff gov loc axle you need to replace the case. If it's an open diff it uses the factory case.

The guy lives in Michigan. To run a Detroit Locker in the snow is a handfull. Pulling a trailer in the snow with one is flat out crazy. Stock is just fine.

My 2001 has the locker in the rear dif. and no problems (in four wheel drive) in the snow with or with out the trailer. If it is just a 2 wheel drive -- you have my symphathy. :D

I had an 83' F-250 4WD w/ a 6.9L and I put a Detroit Locker in the rear. I found that on anything but dry pavement accelerating + cornering = Spinout. Pulling a heavy trailer (8,000lbs) that had comression style brakes would also engage the locker in corners. 35 inch tires may have contributed to the problem though.
