Anyone know how many hours of labor the book calls for, to swap out a 4l80e in a '93 2500? I was charged 7.9 hrs for this job!! Seems like a lot to me?

7.9 hours doesn't sound unreasonable. The calculation of labor hours isn't exactly straight forward, as at least part of many jobs require more than one person, which translates to higher labor hours for the actual job hours. I can't imagine GM, or any dealer, suggest a tranny R/R completely single-handed. Not saying it can't be done (I've done several), just that it shouldn't. The only other thing I can think of would be the difference between 2wd and 4wd. 4wd requires more labor, so you may want to check which labor hour rate they used.

If its a 4x4, they are a PITA
The tranny has got to come back, then down and forward to clear the torsion bar cross member.
Yours being a C series would sure seem a bit on the high side, but possibly not.

I have hauled one of these pigs out, and do not wish to do another one unless I had access to a hoist to get the thing WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY up in the air. (4X4)

Doesn't sound out of line to me.

Most flat rate shops use the Mitchell manual to quote labor hours per job.

At least, they did when I was wrenchin' for a livin'......
