My fuel injection pump(rebuilt) was replaced at the dealer Nov 2010. Now 38k miles later while driving the engine increases speed by itself. That happened 2 times 2 days ago. Yesterday ok. Today it happened twice already. Condition only lasts a few seconds. SES light doesn't come on. Anyone have any ideas?

Is this a slight increase in speed ? or a wide loose type of thing ??

My first guess would be a failing PMD

Not wide open. Just slow increase. Lasted a second or two. Can the pmd go bad that quickly? The pump that was replaced had over 100K and 5years on it.

Does the pump have a Flight/Dtech PMD on it? The Stanadyne units just quit/stall. The Dtech units had a history of "self accelleration"

The DS4 pump metering can also do this if it gets "sticky" and does not move smoothly.

Quality fuel additive is a must these days.
