intake gaskets

why is the exhaust crossover blocked off in heavy duty J code 6.2 intake manifold gaskets and the light duty is open ? wouldnt you always want the in take manifold heated or heated up for cold starts? and which should I use for a .6.5 shortblock with 6.2 heads and injectors ?

The port is for EGR in light duty applications. And, you DO NOT want the intake heated on a Diesel. Almost everything we do to improve power and/or economy on Diesel engines involves reducing intake heat (intake air density). We aren't trying to vaporize gasoline in the inlet path. It wouldn't work, at all, for cold starts. By the time you get any heat up there, you don't need it.

thanks I will use the heavy duty gaskets that have the port blocked off with a steel plate.. I dont have a egr manifold.
