Hello All,
Has anyone ever replaced the clutch fan with a smaller fan? Was under the hood the other day with it running, and that fan still pulls a ton of air at idle. So I was thinking if I replaced the stock fan with a smaller fan, it wouldn't pull so much air. I really don't do any pulling in the winter, and when its down in the 20-30s my truck never gets hot.
Thanks
be careful some 2005 are are over heaters

I never had a problem with my truck, I live in texas, towing in 105 temps at 75 mph, no issues.
I recently put a cold air setup on it, and it runs cooler.
But back the topic, In the winter, I don't do much towing and when its 30 degrees out, it takes forever to build heat. I blocked off about a 1/3 of the radiator with a piece of plexi glass and that seems to help.

GM produced "winter fronts" for these trucks. The first few model year Duramax powered trucks came with them - rolled/folded beneath the rear seat. Try to locate one for your truck, or visit Cabelas (http://www.cabelas.com/product/WinterSummer-Truck-Grille-Covers/745995.uts?Ntk=Product_liberal&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FD%3Dgrill%2Bco ver%26N%3D%26Ntk%3DProduct_liberal%26Ntt%3Dgrill%2 Bcover%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WTz_l%3D Header%253BSearch-All%2BProducts%26form_state%3DsearchForm%26isLiber al%3DY%26search%3Dgrill%2Bcover%26searchTypeByFilt er%3DAllProducts&Ntt=grill+cover&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products) for a commercial Winter Grille Cover made for your model year truck.
I should mention that the grille cover should be removed when towing, even during the winter, because it will hurt fuel economy and performance, as well as make the truck run warmer. I did some towing in February a couple years ago and learned first hand...
