I have a 1987 V20 3/4 ton 6.2 ltr diesel suburban (in good condition). I have on occasion had the hard start issue due to leaks at the filter housing and now once again. Looking to go to a Racor 230R2 and get rid of the stock housing per other posts on this forum.

Is this the best or most reasonable choice now?
What micron filter should be used?
Are there major concerns to do this change?
I will need FAST delivery...any suggestions on where to buy. I'm in Greensboro,NC
Any preferred diesel mechanics in this area for this vehicle?

Hoping to mount it in the same place as stock...I can make or modify bracket. Will it fit? Appears to me it will.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Monti

HI

The Racor 230R2 is a 2 micron filter.

This will do a great job.

A 2 mic is very small and if you get a bunch of dirty fuel it will plug up fast.

Better to plug the filter than run a bunch of crud through the IP

The (2) on the end of the Racor number "R2" is the filter micron designation

This is a great filter setup and works well with this application.

Call you local parts house and see if they can get you one, if not check ebay or othr online sources.

We have a place in Portland called Oil filter service company that is a Racor dealer.'
Good bet that there is a dealer close to you.

Don't know where to buy local but I ordered mine a month ago from these people: http://www.defender.com/ (http://www.defender.com/) Cheapest on the internet.

Yup, it should easily go where the stock one is mounted.

Right around the corner from you in Concord. Eat some Stamey's BBQ for me!!

Started the conversion tonight, Found the racor at a local diesel shop. I will make the bracket mod tomorrow. We eat stamey/s bbq on a somewhat regular basis. All seems well and thanks for the advice and help.
