I just bought a set of chrome wheels on ebay. My wheels are just painted steel with the black plastic hubs. The new ones are 16 x 6.5 and I was just wondering what would be the best size tire to put on these? I will be pulling my 5er and occasionally will haul loads up to 3,000 pounds or so. I was thinking of going with LT265/75R16 but they all seem to come with a load range C. The LT245/75R16 come with a load range E. What would be the best for what I am using the truck for?

There are lots of 265/75/R16 load range E tires I know Goodyear, Firestone, Michelin, and Bridgestone make them. I run 265/75/R16 load range E Bridgestone Revos.

Beware load range E typically have the same thread as c or d, but with a lot less siping, so their snow and wet braking performance suffer significantly.

Happened to me with a set of FS steeltex

Most lt 265 75 16 require a 7 inch rim.It can be dangerous and it will cause premature tire wear to put them on a 6.5" rim. you want to check the manufacturer to get the approved rim widths on the tires good luck

Not all load range "E"s are the same. Like it says it's a range. On the side wall there is
actual max wt in lbs. Remember the max wt is for 1 tire. You do have more than 1 on the truck. There can be big differences in lbs within a range too. FYI

I have the Bridgestone Revo's 265-75R-16 load range E mounted on the aluminium rims off a 2003 HD. I absolutely love the tires and the look on my 98 GMC. I've run them about 6,000 miles under minimal load and so far show no signs of wear.
The tire dealer where I bought them said it was no problem to mount them on the 6.5 wide rim. I dont know what size tire you are running now, but if its a smaller tire than the 265 75R 16 you may have to recal. your speedo and depending on the load you are towing you may suffer a little power loss... just some things to consider...Good luck Simzie

You might want to talk to your dealer because i am an authorized bridgestone dealer and the minimum wheel width is 7". Using too small of a rim will void your warranty. And can void your warranty.

Ken Ken,

All load range "E" tire of the same size have the same rating its a standard the manufactor are held to, so we can know what is the correct tire to buy.

LT 235/85/R16 3042
LT 265/75/R16 3415
LT 245/75/R16 3032

You are correct in saying that all load range "E" tire aren't the same.

Where you have to be careful is with tires sizes with different load ranges for the same size.

LT 265/75/R16 is a bad one for more than one reason: lots of 265's are load range "C" and add to that the 265's in load range "E" are a fairly new tire. They have only been around about 5 years vs LT 235/85/R16 witch are mostly sold as a heavy duty truck tire and are very seldom seen in other than load range "E". Anther issue with the 265's is they are also sold in P265/75/R16 sizes too.

I had to have one of my Revo's warrented due to a nail hole and they tried to pass off a load range "C" tire on me that would have been a mess with my Lance camper.

note the weights listed are for singles duals are less and you only get that weight at the max tire pressure too less air less weight.

It pays to be careful when tire shopping.

edited for spelling

i've also noticed that the ranges can really differ from tire to tire,i just got some lt245/75/16 for my 1/2 4x4,and was looking into some 265/75/16 for my 3/4 sub which already has the 265's and the load range was c or d for the 265 and e for the 245,but one thing you will want and totally insist on it is LT tires do not buy the p rated tires,i had them on my 1/2 ton suburban and even with 40 lbs which was 5 over the max they still felt like they were always low,had that mushy feel to it like if you ever had to quick swear to avoid something in the road that they would roll right off the rim.

I have the Revo's on my truck, also in 265/75/16 E. Mounted them on aluminum Weld Mountain Crushers. Great in the snow and rain.

I really like my Pro-Comps. (all-terrain LT265/75-16E) I know not an established name, but they have been great in snow, wet, dry - and have been wearing very well and evenly (about 20K on them now, 65%+ still to go). The mail order was not the hassle I thought it would be (actually got one tire free so the shipping did not affect me!) and my favorite local tire shop gave me no lip about mounting them (not free, though).

I can't say I would get them again, because I like to try different tires- but I have no complaints.

There are some D rated tires many with capacities higher than E's. They take less max pressure than E's, though, so may not be as stable for towing esp. with SRW.

Todd :D Todd,

I like them they are quiet, and seem to wear slowly too. I wish I had had a chance to try them on ice and snow, but I haven't since Uncle moved me to South Carolina right after I got them.
