Im wondering if a 6.5 n/a that's fully dressed, would be ok weight wise on a 750lb engine stand or should i go for the 1000 stand ?

Not a chance. Even then, it depends on who is rating the engine stand. The most common stands (of questionable origin of mfg) require some serious consideration. "Their" 1,000# stands don't hold up, and "their" 2,000# stands barely do, with a fully dressed 6.5 (N/A or not). "They" are long in theory, and short in practice. YMMV

I started with a 3 legged stand, added a tube across the front to allow 4 casters.

I added more iron to the upright to stiffen the thing and it still makes me nervous when I get a fully dressed 6.5 on it.

Just sitting its a tad bouncy and when I have to move it, I have a prop that I place under the crank pulley just to be safe.

A fully dressed 6.5 is in the neighborhood of 800# The D max is about the same, but has aluminum heads ?????????

Ok thanks ... Ill have to get one and do a bit of hillbilly engineering on it to sitffin it up so it sets better

Should i be ok with a 750 stand with just a 6.5 short block (no heads)?

Thanks for the advise

Not if it got here on a boat. Maybe if it didn't. The 750# stands are more suited for small, lightweight 4 bangers. If you are shopping at Harbor Freight (or similar products, including the chain auto part stores), don't get less than their 1-ton model. Their 1,000# model will barely support a shortblock, if it's sitting in a corner while you stare at it.

Mine came here via BOAT I'm sure of it.

After I added about 50 pounds of steel to it, its better.

I used to have one that would easily hold a 3208 CAT. Been there done that.

Heavy little chunk those are . Dropped one in a Mid 70's Ford 4x4 and we then needed to pick the front end off the dirt.
The only drawback on that engine was the noise and the vibrations.

The power was really good though. 3208T 350HP

Ya the 3208 is a great motor .. we got one in one of our single axle dumps and a dt466 in the other one ... i really like the 8v92 Driptroit thats in our old white lowboy .... makes lots of noise and smoke :D
