View Full Version : throttle position sensor check
Does anyone know how to check a throttle position sensor on a 1991 Chevy Suburban 6.2L? Thanks. :)

There are three wires comig out of the TPS:
1. 5 volts DC (do not exceed 5 volts)
2. ground
3. TPS output (0 to 1.25 volts at idle to 4.5 to 5 volts at full throttle)
These devises are "Hall Effect" sensors so never exceed the 5 volt input. You can get a cheap electronic voltage regualtor at your local electronics store (12v to 5 v). Connect the 5 volts to the hot side of the TPS (check your FSM for color coding), connect the ground and using your digital volt meter, measure the output to ground. The computer in the truck will see any value below 1.25v as idle (0%) and anything over 4.5 as 100% throttle opening.
Most just keep a known good TPS around for diagnostics.
