Security light

2002 Duramax 6.6 and the Security light is on in the Message Center. Won't crank. Does anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong and how I would go about fixing? Thank you

first put a battery charger on it, (to keep the voltage on it), turn key to on postion and let it set for 10 to 15 min, if the like goes out all is good, if not repeat a couple of time more. it needs to reset itself

Won't "crank" or cranks, but won't "fire"? Correct definition of terms ie critical here.

This is a personal peeve of mine where the term "crank" is used where "fire" should be.
