Apparently theft of tailgates is on the rise in our area. Mostly new one's and seems like GM tailgates for the most part. I guess they are quick and easy to steal and easy to sell.
Lock them if you can or take em off and store them. Exhaust and cat's were a hot item and now this also. Sad we have to live that way.
Pass the word.

Yup, just seconds to remove them without any tools.
I've thought about crimping the quick-disconnect end of the support cables, so they don't disconnect. This would stop the "no tools" thief. If the support cables ever need to be replaced, they can be cut. The tailgate could still be removed, but you'd have to unbolt the end that fastens to the tailgate.

I am guessing that most of the gates are being taken while the trucks are parked at large shopping centers or in area's where a thief drives by and see's it and can grab it quickly. Probably not so much in your driveway unless you live in a rual area and they can see it from the road and no one's around.
We are seeing more thefts of things like tools and power equipment, four wheelers and dirt bikes and even bicycles from sheds and residences around our area.
You will never guess who is stealing most of the bicycles and riding them, "people who aren't susposed to be here in the first place". Go figure! Very Sad.
I've had a Pop&lock (http://www.popandlock.net/) on my 03 since new .. simple and it works well ..

I'm lucky, our 2011 has the key lock built into the tailgate already along with the back up camera. I imagine the tailgate with camera and painted is probably over $2,000 to replace.
