Buddy's 2001 Sierra = ! Dead Block ! = Oil Starved.

Engine Option came up  5.6TD from Van... Please confirm... (True/False):

-Intake Mani Harware is going to have 90 degree difference?
-Water out is lower - will require longer hose (same diameter?)?
-Difference in Turbo location?
-Injector mounting/rail?

What else is going to be a hurdle on compatibility?? :( (Worth the Trouble?!)

Thanks guys,

I would recommend swapping the heads and intake to that for a truck. I don't know if the center mount turbo will fit in the truck engine compartment.

As ronniejoe states, you should be able to swap over the various components from the damaged engine to make the van block work.

For the truck engine, the right side exhaust manifold is where the turbo mounts, so it is certainly different than the van manifold for that side.

The center mount turbo heads have a 60 degree angle on the intake face, while the passenger side turbo heads have a 90 degree angle on the intake face-thats the difference that makes a direct bolt on incompatable.

Like mentioned swap the heads and related parts over or buy aftermarket truck heads that are better quality than stock-less prone to cracks.

The blocks will be identical with the exception of a possible difference where the oil cooler lines thread into the block, there are 2 different diameter fittings and I am not sure what years the difference applies to.

A wise move would be to get an oil cooler kit from PMD Cable or Lubrication Specialists to replace the stock leak prone hardware.
The kits have all the nessasary fittings for either size block.

There were also minor differences where the OPS was located but that is of no concern.

Also it is rumored that the van blocks may not accept the stock truck turbo oil drain pipe and will require drilling the hole out wheret he fuel pump would have bolted on for teh turbo drain.

FYI - the angle of the threads in the head that accept the lower air intake are different-for what its worth.
