The short:
14022660 on the left 9 - - 82 on the right

This motor any good ? I've spent hours searching this forum no strait answer getting swapped into a 94 k2500 burb, 4l80e (tci trans control) i'm expecting to pull a 1400lb 16ft car hauler and a 3200lb race truck or 3400lb wrangler to events.

what i'll be doing to the motor before hand is below

The long:

I picked up a craigslist deal from a guy who had to move a motor out of the shop he was working for in a hurry (he was changing jobs not stolen.. thought of that after i read it lol, his mgr opened the doors up after hours to help us load also a nice guy). Started out 1000, a week later he took 250 cash but i had to be there that night to get it from his work, super nice guy who was a big diesel mech guy my age.. mid 20's etc.

Well he said it was a buddy of his's motor that was pulled from a wrecked truck with under 10k on it and he put it in a lowered 80's show truck and it saw tops another 20k,.. The motors clean almost to clean but its also painted yellow and no major leaks it all looks pretty good. Its got cork valve cover seals so i know someones been in it but at nearly 30 years old im having a hard time buying the 30-40k deal anyways. He gave me everything to swap it into a gas truck because he had collected it for his late 80's big 4x4 and bails.. giant radiator (that got me a nice 60 dollar scrap lol) hydroboost off a late model chevy, lines, exhaust stuff all kinda junk.

Now for the questions
I collected everything i need to make this physically into a 6.5 turbo, F intake, sept belt setup, turbo manifolds and GM4 turbo, all factory lines etc, swapping to 01 hummer pump, Dmax fan and clutch

The plan was make it identical to our 94 DS4 pump 6.5 Minus the DS4 including using its head gaskets along with ARP studs. I've been told 6.2 bottom is awesome, lower piston ringland configuration more meat around wrist pin etc, then i've been told its junk also. I've never seen such a division between thoughts literally one shop was excited it was a 6.2 and 82 and another told me sell it to next sucker on CL.

If this is untouched and factory heads i know they will be coarse thread injectors.. are these hard to find? what should the casting number on the head be to match the lower so i know if someone found this block and built it or if its really original.

If the heads are junk then i do have a couple sets of 6.5L heads one i think has a crack in a dry area another some ACH casting.. and i can get more for 50-100 set hopefully good.

So keep it, build it ? (pending comp test later this week or tonight)
sell it complete, buy a shot 6.5 for 150 and rebuild it?
Repair whatever let loose with 454 in the burb or drop a 350 in it lol.

We have another 6.5 truck 95 Ds4 crew cab long bed 5spd thats been just an amazing truck that we just finished rebuild the truck around the motor and were hoping to add to the fleet.

Thanks a million guys I've had several people point me to this site so i thought i'd make the switch!

I found a little more info tonight I took a good look at the injectors and found this serial
"0 430 211 058" injectors

This appears to be good news, those look like 83-88? According to a couple searches. Dis this mean heads were swapped ?

The 82 6.2 was a good engine overall.

The 82 used the coarse threaded injectors.

If you go to the later heads, the injector angle is different and you will need to scrounge up a set of 6.5 injector lines.

If you use a DB2 injection pump you need the late 6.2 (91-93) or the 92-93 6.5 lines.

Using a DS4 IP requires the 94 and later 6.5 lines and also the 94 and later 6.5 timing cover, reluctor (bottom timing gear)

6.5 head gaskets are the real deal for this project.

All the other goodies will work.

Turbo oil feed can be tapped off the port above the cooler lines and run to the turbo.

Lots of good "HOW TO" here.

Keep us posted and good luck

OH BTW Nice looking Burb

Be careful using new style head gaskets on the older engines. The old engines have a water passage that the newer engines do not and you WILL have a coolant leak (this learned the hard way).

ahh very good advice, completly planned on running 94-95 head gaskets

So i guess my next round of questions as you guys get a chance to look through,

Worth running the 6.2 heads with 6.5 turbo manifolds or should i make the switch now? I've probably got 2 sets of 6.5 injectors i could have tested out to find a good set and can get ahold of lines etc probably only cost me another 100 bucks or so to go with the 6.5 heads pending all the 6.5L heads i find aren't rocked and my 6.2 heads are perfect or something.

Are you guys running spacers on the 6.5 manifolds with 6.2 heads i'm finding mixed results in that area?

I can probably pickup a 4911 with questionable miles on it for 100-175 with the TPS sensor i need though should i make that switch now? what the exp. to this point been with power differences. I want to get this as close as possible to our 95 DS4 pump truck stock.

Also it appears i'll be running the flowmaster cross over and downpipe then 4" exhaust.

Also ! external wastegate, I'm a big into turbo's gas and diesel and i just don't like the idea of a gate that regulates off exhaust pressure.. who is running a external gate and which one.. and off what (y pipe etc)

thanks again,

Robyn

The stock GM turbo will give you pretty much all the boost that the 6.5 can deal with and live.

IMHO I would not really worry much about all the trick turbos at this point.

You can use the manifold spacer if you use the older style 6.2 heads.

I would Opt for a fresh set of 6.5 heads and not deal with the hastle of the spacer and that stuff.
