My 2005 GMC 2500HD has had a couple of odd events while towing a travel trailer: both times we were climbing a hill and the transmission seemed to slip, much like a slipping clutch, forcing me to pull over and stop. After sitting for 5 or 6 minutes, I continued on with no problem. This was 2 years ago and there have been no further issues, until now.

The first thing I noticed last week was that the Tow/No Overdrive switch was not working: no indicator lights came on when the button was pushed and there was no reaction from the transmission. Then, a few days later my wife informed me that the transmission had done the "slipping" thing again (on a flat road, normal load), and that the check engine light had come on.

The truck is now at a service shop, and I've been told that there were two error codes in the system, both transmission related. Both require "dropping the pan" to investigate further, so the truck is being sent to a transmission shop. What can I expect to hear from them?

I don't plan to try and argue with a transmission specialist over their diagnosis, I would just like to have some idea of what they are talking about when they call.

The tow haul button problem is common and is most likely a broken wire coming out of your shifter arm(VERY common issue with them, and easily fixeable). As for teh trans, need to know what codes it is throwing to tell more. Is it tuned or stock? How many miles? And if it is tuned how much added HP and how many miles has it been tuned?

I wasn't told which codes specifically, just that they are related to shift solenoid issues. The truck is stock, has 113,000 Km on the odometer (3500 hours according to the dash timer).
