Thank you to all that responded to my other thread. After only one week of installation of new block heater it went bad, heater is testing open circuit. Truck starting in morning only by the grace of God, will be replace existing heater and while at it was going to put in a spare. If someone could tell me good location that would be great. Current heater is on left side just fwd or oil filter. 1985 Silverado 6.2. Thank you All. Dave
The cords (replaceable) fail much more frequently than the heaters themselves...
On the 6.2s and 6.5s I always install a second frost plug heater on the passenger side in the center? frost plug. I have to make a custom starter bracket to clear the heater. I do it when the engine is out of the truck. You would have to take the starter off to get the second one in with it in the truck. There is a couple pics of it in the starter thread last week.

Ya tested at block heater itself open line!
Good quality replacement parts seem to be getting harder to find. I've run nothing but napa frost plug heaters for many years without a failure. That doesn't mean that they didn't change manufactures and quality. :( Everything seems to be driven by price not quality.
