:cool:hey all, have an 02 lb7 eng. it is missing, pretty sure it is an injector, my question is how do i tell which one it is. have sheilds on manifolds, cant get a good reading with a infrared thermometer, as you all know its a common rail so you cant crack an injector line to check that way, with out diagnostic equpt. can it be done with ease? help!!!!!

Is there a code up? I suggest checking fuel supply.

Just came on suddenly? No code seems very odd. No other "symptoms"?

thought it was feeling slugish 3 days ago, and what i think is an injector rattle, was getting louder it is now at its loudest point, not getting any worse, but is is a definate miss. i am a truck mechanic on cats ,cummins, detroit,ect... still trying to learn all the quwerks on the duramx, all inj. replaced under waranty at 96k, i replaced head gasketts ( with arp head studds) at 128k, now has 149k all was well till the other day, if its the mecanical part of the inj. it wont throw any codes will it!!!!!! ???????

With a tech II you should be able to shut off one cylinder at a time and ID the missing one that way.

Not certain if it would throw code due to innards, looking at service manual & they break it up into a few catagories, pick your poison-
base engine misfire without internal engine noise
" " " with abnormal internal lower noise
" " " with abnormal valve train noise
" " "with coolant consumption
" " " with oil consumption

for sluggishness they are looking for fuel quality & supply. Air restrictions/ leaks, fuel rail pressure, restricted injector test as john c mentioned with tech 2 "Fuel injector balance test"

That is an understatement! And we thought the $ charged for diagnostic time was expensive!

I will caution you right away to stop driving it. Open the oil fill cap and see if there is any "puffing" at idle would be a simple no tools way to start.

have no puffin out of the oil fill tube, did find some some one with a million $ snap on scanner with cyl cut out, noise went away with # 8 cut off, every other cyl is firing like it should, wouldnt you know it would have to be the hard side, and the very back one to boot, Damn my luck!!!!!!

if its puffin out of the oil fill there is a bigger problem than just an inj. doesnt seem to have any blow by!
