With moderate throttle, about half to three fourths, acceleration does great until about 50MPH. At that point it flattens out. If I ease the throttle back a little the acceleration picks up again and I can floor the accelerator and the speed keep gettng higher. I kinda suspect the fuel filter except that after I ease up on the throttle and then floor it there is no fuel starvation. It is near time for a filter change so I hoping that is all the engine needs. Am I to expect more problems than just putting on a new fuel filter?

You can verify the condition of your fuel filter with a simple restriction test. The term "near time" for a filter change is quite vague. When people ask how many miles will a filter last my answer is "yes" as I have no way of knowing what the source fuel is, or the gallons processed (MPG of the vehicle) during the service interval.

This is the way to know instantly rather than just changing the filter and saying "seems better"
