I have a '99 K3500.
I had it to the dealer today to get the IP timing adjusted. It is now at the 3.5 deg it is supposed to be. I was at .5 The TDC offset is set at -.88.

The fuel rate idling is 14mm^3. The GM manual says it should be 7-15,however in the 99 reprints Jim Bigley says it should be 9-10. What can make it run on the high side? My pump was replaced about 18,000 miles ago. The truck has 75,000 on it.

Our dealer is cooperative with me but doesn't know that much about the diesels. Is there any place or a book I can purchase that would thoroughly explain the electronic injection pump system? I just have not been able to find any place where I can get the info.

Does the truck come off fast idle when warmed up? If it doesn't the coolant temperature switch could be sticking. Do you know what the RPM's are when you got the 14mm fuel rate? The idle RPM's should be around 600 IIRC. Fast idle is some where around 800 I think.

The 14mm fuel rate is at warm idle which is about 600 rpm. The truck is idling back from about 800 to 600 when it warms up.
