96 K1500 vs. 97/98 K1500

Are there any differences/advantages to a 97/98 K1500 versus a 96 K1500? Below is what I know and have been able to glean from this forum, manuals, and other data.

Did the electronic shift on-the-fly transfer case come on a 96?

96 K1500
!!!! VERIFY COOLING UPGRADES!!!!
. 130gpm water pump
. dual thermostat crossover
. oil cooled pistons
? electronic shift on-the-fly transfer case?

97 K1500
. 1/2" oil cooler ports on engine

Generally speaking, the differences are minimal, BUT there is the whole 6 lug versus 8 lug thing where GM made some light duty 6 lug 2500's and heavy duty 8 lug 1500's :rolleyes:

Also bear in mind that many of these older trucks no longer have the original engine.

never seen an OBS eight lug 1500. seen and owned a six lug 1500, and seen a six lug 2500....

1500 diesel BURBS from 94-99 were 8 lug wheels.
