Spare Tire

Can anyone tell me if the 2007 classic spare tire carrier can be installed on the 2003. Had a flat and the spare on the 2003 is just about impossible to remove without a hacksaw. What parts would I need if it can be switched? I know I will have to get a new extension for lowering the spare. I would be believe that the switch is possible.

They are the same. The winch, tire/wheel, and frame mount.

Strange. On my 2007, I can simply winch down the spare. The owner's manual for the 2003 tells me that I have to put the jack under the spare tire and lift it up to release a latch before I can winch down the spare. In addition, the square opening on the extension pieces for the 2007 is larger than the 2003.

I don't know about the square size. Never noticed. I've mixed/matched them up to 2007, and replaced a few. 2007.5+ may be different. First I've heard of "jacking", too. Never had to do that. Interesting, though, since many folks changing a tire will jack the truck before going after the spare. That would a bit frustrating.
