Guys, I am new to the forums and live in Australia. I am looking at buying a 2nd hand 1998 Suburban - k8 2500LT.
A couple of these have between 80 and 90,000 kilometres - (50,000-60,000 miles)
What major maintenance would be due (should be done) on a vehicle such as this ?
regards
Craig

Fluid capasities
anytime I buy a new/used vehicle...I get it up in the air, pull the wheels and give it a good goin over...leaky seals, brakes etc.
Change all fluids regardless, new tranny filter etc....change serp belt, antifreeze.
Doing basic maint work ...allows you to find potential deficiencies

I was going to get all of the basics that have been listed done. I was concerned if there were other things that members would get done or that would be coming up at the point in time such as
Timing belt
Water pump
Thermostat
Vacuum brake
master cylinder etc ?
Alternator

What you have listed are "service as necessary" items. Meaning, no need to repair/replace until they cause issues. These should be good until you have about twice the current mileage. The thermostats (2) should be serviced with the coolant service interval. Probably about due if you don't have a record of recent service.
Note:
No timing belt. Chain and sprockets.
No vacuum brake booster. Hydroboost (hydraulic, powered by the PS pump).

The cooling system is marginal on the 6.5 good idea every year or two clean between the A/C condensor and radiator. Bugs and weeds and junk collect in between. Clean and service batteries and rotate positions.
