I recently changed my fuel filter on 2003 GMC Duramax and could not get the filter to prime up, but went ahead and cranked up the engine. It ran for about 10 seconds then stopped. Could not get it restarted. I then removed the fuel filter and filled it with fuel from my can, then reinstalled it. The hand primer then seemed to work, and was able to top up the filter. However, engine still will not start. I have a full tank of fuel. I think the injection pump is dry. Any Suggestions?

Usually this is caused by an air leak at the newly installed filter. (Are you sure you got the small seal for the center of the old filter off?) If the primer works to fill the filter, then keep pumping until it gets hard to push. The engine should then start, although it may take a while for the air to work out completely.
