Hello,

I want to install a old style oil pressure sender on a newer (98) 6.5 engine.

Thread size seems to be different according to the parts stores:

the new style sender is 3/8 and the old one 1/4. Unfortunately the thread size also seems to be different so I think I'm not gonna be able to use an ordinary fitting/reduction.

Is there any solution to that problem? ;)

Thanks again!

Flo

Actually, it's 1/8" NPT for the old one, and 1/4" NPT for the newer one.

My recommendation would be to get the correct fitting that screws into the block for the 6.2L style sender.

Have you checked out the OPS flex line at PMDCABLES.com? I have fought with my fuel filter a couple of times now while changing my OPS. I was going to fashion my own relocation line but I think I'm going to order the line from them to be ready for next time. I'll have to check on the thread size again as I didn't realize there is a difference in the different year models.

A simple thread adapter bushing is all you need.

Use a steel one in the block with a little permatex or silicone on the threads and then screw in your old style sender.

If you want you can plug the hole behind the LH head and then use the port just above the cooler line ports.

Hey,

thanks a lot for your help! I already got me some hardware, maybe I use a 1/4 brass or steel plug like Robyn mentioned and use a correct size thread-cutting trap to install the old style sender!

@anp4god:

jep, I already cecked it out but I think it won't fit the old style sender

By the way:

there seems to be a sender with the old style wiring connector but seems to have a 1/4 thread for the new style blocks.

It seems that this kind of sender was only used on chevy vans with 6.5 diesel engines. maybe I'll just get me this one though it is quite $ expensive
compared to a brass or steel fitting

OK problem solved,

I ordered a matching (well besides the inner thread) brass fitting.

Slightly recut the inner thread and with some gentle force & sealant the sender just looks like it was built this way

sorry for the missing pics but I couldn't wait to install the sender on my engine ;-)

Or leave the factory OPS, add my harness and it's non load carrying OPS and your OPS issues are over PLUS you have the ability to acivate the pump manually and teh key up "prime" function.
