i have a 599 block that i have cut a chunk of the cylinder wall out of. Curious if somebody could do the same with a junk 6.2 block and we can get to the bottom of how far can we bore a 6.2

That would be interesting. Somebody reported that The Diesel Depot bored red 6.2 blocks to 6.5. What is the cylinder wall thickness measurement?

I just removed the right side cylinder head off my Blazer. In the cleaning process I measured the cylinders and found all four cylinders diameter between 101.90mm and 101.92mm (4.012

I've got a cracked 82 block that I'd be willing to take a chunk out of, where did you take the chunk out and how do you want it cut (torch, etc.) ?

i just cut right in the middle of the cylinder wall, about 1" square with my plasma cutter. This engine was a stock bore 599 so I'm curious if GM really did change the casting for the bigger bore. I'll bet a large chunk of money they didn't. And we can all live happily ever after boring our 6.2's to 103mm.

The more I study, read, and talk to different people, the more I'm beginning to believe that you're absolutely right and that there is no actual difference in the 6.2L and 6.5L blocks (other than piston oil spray, etc). 6.5L blocks have a much bigger tendency to crack in the cylinder walls, and if you believe that a 6.5L is just a bored out 6.2L, then you can definitely understand why.

Benny Avant owns an '82 Suburban with a 6.2L bored out to a 6.5L, and it's NOT a 599 block. No problems to date on that engine. I first saw that truck at the Ohio Rendezvous.

Grape, I've got a red 6.2 and a 85 or 86 black 6.2 that both have holed blocks due to head problems. I will measure the wall thickness on both. When looking at them when I got the blocks I thought to myself that they could handle the overbore.

I'll be at my shop tonight and mic the chunk i cut out, but it's not much thicker than .250" if i had to guess.

Did you get some measurements from other blocks?

Please keep us posted.
