I own a 1999 GMC 3500 with a 6.5L turbodiesel engine. It stalled on the road and now won't start. I have since replaced the lift pump. The lift pump will not pump when I turn over the engine. I have wired power to it directly from the battery via the fuel relay terminal and it pumps fuel fine. I have tried to crank the egine while the lift pump is energized and I am not getting fuel at the injectors. I do have fuel at the filter bleeder. The injector pump does not click when you turn the ignition. Does anyone have any thoughts?????? I have been at this for approximately two weeks. I have also swapped out the PMD with a new one and still no fuel at the injectors. I have pulled the code and it reads P0231.
This sounds like a PMD issue for the most part.
The NO RUN on the lift pump is strange though.
Be sure that all battery connections are clean and sound.
Electrical grounds at the RH rear of the intake manifold.
Be sure the Lift pump relay is working properly.
Did the SES light come on??
Check for any codes present.
My first inclination is that the PMD failed (Common) Has the PMD been remote mounted???
ONE more check before we get too deep.
Be sure that there is 12V to the fuel shutoff solenoid (Tall round unit on top of the IP.
This should click when it energizes, may be hard to hear but usually will click.
If no power to the solenoid, find out why. Fuse, bad connection ??
If there is 12V at the solenoid but it does not click then it may have failed.
Easily unscrewed and replaced.
More info please.
Keep us posted and we will get through this.
