... hey guys (and diesel gals ;-)
I got my new old engine a week ago. It arrived on a pallet without any damages. I'm glad I bought it, I'll have to take some pics for you the next days ;)
anyway here are the facts:
For whatever reason, the U.S. Airforce sold some of their 1998 C3500 Trucks over here. Engine & Truck actually have run less then 40k miles and the motor looks (almost) brand new. No leaks/no dirt, even the exhaust mainfolds and the crossoverpipe still look new and have next to no rust.
Some German guy purcased a lot (four) of these trucks and parted two of them out. I paid roughly $2000 for the engine and I'm very glad that I did buy it. :D I even managed it to get the oil cooler and radiator of the truck!
As said: I hope I'll manage it to get you some pics! :D
Greetings from Germany
Flo
P.S.
If anyone needs the electonic IP/wiring harness/PMD just send me an email, I have a New-Old Stock 1993 wiring harness and don't need the electronic stuff as I want to run it with the 4911 pump. Shipping to the U.S. is no problem.
... though I have to confess that I hardly want to touch that nice engine :(

here's the truck the engine is intended to power ;-)

Nice looking Blazer - sounds like you 'scored' on the 6.5L. Keep us posted!
What's the ball on the driver's side of the firewall? A reservoir for vacuum-boosted brakes instead of hydroboost?
I remember during my tour in Germany (92-95) I used to get parts for my '77 Dodge "M887 maintenance contact team truck" from a dealer called "The Dutchman" not too far outside Kaiserslautern.

Hey,
yep, that vaccum-ball is out of a gasser. I parted out an 5.0 GMC Jimmy and used the old smallblock chassis to drive around my repainted cab until I finished my 6.2 frame. (got SS brake & fuel lines, new shocks, new springs and so on. I also redid both axles and the entire driveline) Interior is completely new too. I even managed it to get new (NOS) rear interior panels.
Guess I finally have to make some pics ;)
I had all parts shipped over here from the U.S. In times of internet & cheap shipping rates, it is no problem to do so. The dollar is (was ;-) ) quite cheap so I didn't pay very much for all the parts I needed. As American cars are very popular over here I made a small fortune with all the surplus parts I sold, especially with the Jimmy I parted out. ;)
Oh, and something about the Diesel Engines:
You find a lot of Diesel trucks over here. Gas prices are horrible and believe it or not, the fuel consumption of a 6.2 or 6.5 is quite $$ costly over here.
A gallon Diesel fuel currently is about $7 .... :(:(:( That really sucks.

Hey,
thanks! I put a whole lot of work into it. I even had the frame and a lot of other parts galvanized...
Well, the K5 also has new glass, NOS hardtop sliding windows, new GM bumpers, new GM gaskets and so on. I basically replaced every screw on the truck with a new one.
Besides the new paint which was quite $$, the other parts were not as expensive as one might expect. I have a couple of factory manuals and always use the part numbers for searching discountinued parts and usually these things are a steal. Guess what, I even managed it to get new old stock rear interior panels. It thus has a completely new interior as well
On the last weekend I spent several hours in overhauling my NP208 gearbox and had the driveshafts sandblasted. Already repainted them and installed new U Joints.
The next step is: replacing the valve body of the 700R4 & istalling a new TQ and finally get the engine in!
I have new old stock turbo mainfolds and a new old stock (I love NOS parts :D) wiring harness. (BTW: payed $300 (shipped to Germany!) for all that stuff.
...well, guess I only need a 4911 pump & some hardware and a 4'' sidepipe and the truck is done (OK, I think it never will be done ;-)
@Stezloco:
I'll send you a pm asap! I had no time yet to tear down the 6.5, hope I'll manage to get out the pump on the next weekend.
Greetings from the Bavarian mountains
