For the marine application, all electronic "stuff" has been removed from the engines.
The "glow plugs" are now activated manually. On a cold start how long should they be engaged for?
I am going to replace all the plugs and somebody mentioned that I should buy the newer style 6.5 plug.
Does that make sense?

I'd recommend installing the GM 85-92 glow controller, this is an electronic contoller that's integrated with the relay. This can be adapted easily to any engine configuration. Search this forum for the info on wiring. This info is also in the 6.2 book on the parent page intended for those adapting the 82-84 glow controller to the 85+. This information applies here.

None the less,

You'll want to stay in 10 second range for glow plugs.

The best plugs all the way around are the current AC 60G plugs for the 6.2 or 6.5 application. These will tolerate longer glow durations without fail.
