Hello Gents,
I'm a Naval Officer currently finishing up a deployment in beautiful Taji, Iraq. I'm assigned to an Army unit as an aviator, which has proven to be an interesting endeavour! I'm returning soon, and will be in need of a second vehicle once I do- a truck. I've been fortunate enough to own two GMC 1500's previously, equipped with a 5.3L and 6.0 (LQ9) respectfully. That said, I naturally find myself attracted to the GMC brand. Being that I'll have a need for some moderate towing mixed in, thought I'd give the diesel a go!
This being a second vehicle (I have a 4-door Audi RS6 for daily use), I'm interested in something cost efficient, yet reliable enough to count on when I need it. My 8-week search has led me to a 2003 regular cab 6.6L 2500HD with 250k miles on it. It may very well be just what I need, but the theme of this forum seems to be "injectors". Apparently, injector replacement (all 8) goes for anywhere between $1400-$3200 from what I've read [scary]. The worst part is- there doesn't seem to be a permanent solution to the problem. Folks are just treating the "symptom", which is injector failure.
This concerns me, because it seems reasonable for one to assume that a truck with 250k miles on it is on borrowed time for injectors. I've read that some of you have had failures as soon as 8k miles after full replacement! I've searched for a poll thread that would tally up the average mileage owners are getting on their injectors, but wasn't able to come up with anything. If one exists, I'd appreciate it if you could post a link!
In the meantime, I'd really appreciate it if you all would comb through the maintenance records I've been sent to see if anything sets off a red flag in your minds! I've enjoyed reading your posts over the last few days, and who knows- maybe I'll become a diesel owner myself in the next few days!
Thanks in advance...
Ross
