The plug for my block heater seems to get VERY hot when its plugged in for any length of time. Concerned about fires. Is this normal, or an indication of a problem...

It indicates that there is resistance in the connection between the plug and whatever it's plugged into. Clean the prongs of the plug and verify that they fit tightly into the recepticle.

I think the wattage of various units range from 400-1500. . . .but most probs as described above.
