After about a year and a half of looking, off and on, I finally got the mirror and trouble light to line up from underneath on the elusive engine block identification number, drivers side rear above the bell housing.

10149599, which from what I hear, is generally believed to be a good number.

The crankshaft could drop onto the ground tomorrow I suppose, but I'm in a good mood for now.

With that finally done, I need a new hobby...

I believe there is more to it than just the 599 casting. Some cracked blocks, like my own, have this casting number. More important, is the date of manufacture. Try doing a search. There are a few good threads on how to rate a block.

Yep, I just picked up a 599 block from EWC that is cracked. I'm using it to mock up a swap, but just goes to show that a 599 can have problems too.
