Well, first post for me here at DP. I'm a college student at a small, private university here in Northwest Arkansas (read: broke!) I learned everything I know from rebuilding a 1961 Chevy K20 when I was in high school, see webshots. I just bought my 1996 GMC this summer, and like it more and more each time I drive it.
One thing I'd really like to do to this truck is rework the air intake, probably with a new air box drawing air from outside. I'd like to find a way to monitor IAT before I do anything to establish a baseline. Autometer's IAT gauge looks sweet, but I don't have that kind of $$$ at the moment. After a quick search on ebay, there are tons of thermocouples and temp meters for cheap. Any reason why this would/wouldn't work? Any advice from you guys with experience in this area?
BTW, paying to become a member here was definitely money well spent! Diesels are sorta new to me, and I've learned a ton just from browsing these forums. Thanks!
