I want to change the spin on filter on my 02 GMC. I have a ? though. I looked up on ALLDATA and it says this (Important: DO NOT drain the fluid if only the control main filter is being replaced.) What does that mean? The procedure says drain the fluid. So which is it drain or not to change the spin on filter?

Don't drain the fluid. It isn't necessary, nor recommended. Fluid draining is only necessary if you are doing a fluid service, or removing the pan for any reason. The internal filter (clod sifter) is ONLY replaced at overhaul (as recommended by Allison). Normally, the amount of fluid lost during an external filter change is the fluid in the filter. Most often, no fluid level adjustment is required, but check it anyway.
