Stepper moter ?

My 94 has become hard to start meaning it cranks longer then normal.Then when it starts it rattles much more then normal for just a few seconds. the code set was something to do with stepper moter. Can someone shed some light on this?

Most likely it's out of time, but that's without seeing the actual code.

If the IP is out of time with the engine, the stepper cannot compensate, the stepper motor will be out of range.

Sounds out of time.

I had this on a 1996 6.5 in a Tahoe once, each time I went to start it.

Had to clear the codes and time it, then it started fine after that. You'll have to find someone with a scan tool that can set the timing or get the computer one to do it.

Had a similar problem

Replaced the Timing chain with a gear kit from John Kennedy

Problem solved

Maybe your chain is stretched too?
