I finally remembered to take a couple of pics of my latest 6.5 destruction. The other night I was driving along in the '94 and heard a clanking noise. Headed back to the shop and found the that outer ring had worked completely off the harmonic balancer. I guess 16 yrs and 190,000 miles was enough for it. I've never seen one come clear apart like that, so I thought I'd share.

The other pic I have to share is of the end of the last motor in my '93. After 2 yrs and alot of abuse it my cheap 6.2 build bit the dust. I guess a big turbo, maxed out marine injection pump, and water/meth was to much... Busted a rod, somehow the crank lived.

Nice carnage buddy!

Glad your quick troubleshooting led you right to the problem, no harm done (on the engine the balancer was on).

Ouch on the connecting rod, now if we just had a way to check these rods when rebuilding stuff to make sure there are no small fractures anywhere that can cause us aggravation later.

The best I can do is use the magnafluxer on all the rods. Yeah, that reminds me I have a couple big boxes full or rods. That would make a good chore to do while sitting in the living room watching TV and eating popcorn. Yup, just kidding... Like I would make the time (not denying that the act could happen).

I can hear it now, you might be a redneck if you...

I wonder how many are actually checking with a magnafluxer on rods? I might be surprised, cause that darn evil tool already turns things I have sitting around that I think might be good into perfectly good metal for the scrap man...

I think we need a shrapnel thread, I have a few candidates, your contestants are winning though.
