I bought a 2006 K3500 single rear wheel a little over a year ago, with 58K miles, for the same money. Haven't been watching prices, but would recommend an '06 LBZ truck, if you can find one.

What is the 8th digit of the VIN? This will tell if it is an early '04, or a late. Early are LB7 engines, late are LLY. Search here for info on both.

You should run the VIN at a GM dealership and print out the service/warranty history, before buying. Important information would be if the factory injectors have been replaced, and any other 'major' repairs noted.

A 2004 LLY (VIN code 8th position = 2) with any notation of repairs or customer complaints of overheating should be rejected.

The LB7 engine is the red flag for me. You couldn't pay me $22,500 to take one. I am over this false sense of pretention about the LB7 being a worthy investment. It is not. Read on this board and see the numerous problems and regrets that this particular engine presents. Let alone the three LB7s I have had, all with failures. Some folks have luck, some are wrenchers, but some expect dependability with minimal risk of failure. From testimony here (not my opinion) the LB7 stinks relative to the numbers here with regard to rsik of failure. I am glad for those that have had good luck with the engine. That point is not what this post is about. It's about the numerous ones that have not had good luck. I'd not risk it IF in fact the engine is an LB7.

Maybe your 2004 was manufactured as a 2004.5 and has the LLY engine (although still a barebones upgrade from the LB7). Best of luck in the most positive way. I just call it like I see it and read about it here.

$22,500 is too high, in my opinion.

I paid less that than for an 2004.5 extended cab 2500HD 4x4 LT with 40K miles in October 2008.

That's the same price I just picked my 04 up for, only mine is fully loaded, leather int., power everything. Bed has been rhino-lined and it has a goose neck hitch in it.

Mine was priced right at blue book (kbb). Just to be frank, doesn't sound like a super good deal to me, I'd be trying to get them to come down 2K.
