Stiff gear shift lever

The gear shift lever is stiff at times and may be effected by the cold.The truck is a 2005 Chev 2500HD Allison--Can moisture get into Neutral switch or cable,etc?????????

You could unsnap the control cable-end from the lever on the transmission to help determine whether the stiffness is in the cable and steering column or in the transmission.
