MY grandpa has a 94 3500 6.5L NV4500 4x4 +300K miles. The truck "runs" but not great, hasnt mooved in 3-4 years, both front wheel bearings are bad, tranny is missing 2nd gear, transfer case need rebuilt, no working A/C, no radio, 6 new tires, body is still solid aside from peeling paint and rusty roof.
He said he would sell it to me for a couple hundred because he is tired of keeping the tags and insurance up. Would the intake manifold work for a Vin F swap? Other than that I imagine most of the other parts are interchangable.
If yall think this is a good deal it might make a great tow project in the future for me.
Thanks for the advice.

Up here I now that you are looking at around $500 for both bearings.
You should be able to pick up a used T-case for a couple hundred.
The NV4500 is a solid tranny. A rebuild on it will probably be worth it as it should go for a long time.
Radio and AC are stuff that aren't needed to run the vehicle. for a couple of hundred, it sounds like a good deal.

It would be more like a project truck. I have been thinking of doing a SFA with minimal lift for a DD. The getting parts isn't a problem though since my father in law has an auto salvage.
The truck is on it's sixth tranny (my grand dad uses a family friend Mechanic that cuts corners) and 2nd T-Case, not sure what miles are on the engine but I know the block was cracked when I was a kid, the clutch was new the summer it got parked, as well as the turbo.
Will the the F intake swap over to my 95 in my sig? Looking to get rid of my EGR junk.
Another reason I want the truck is the 6 new E range tires. Its SRW with 2 spares.

if everything is there, than you should have all you need for a swap. ;)
six NV4500's? wow, some people would kill for those trannies!
SFA's seem to be happening more and more. would be a cool conversion.

It went through a tranny a year after my dad got a furd and my gradpa's hired hands started driving it. Always lost 2nd gear, sometimes got as far as to lose 1st and 2nd. Going from low to 3rd was one heck of a jump!
Thanks for the help.

Is there any reason that the IP on the 94 1 ton would be different than the IP on my 95? Most of the changes are in the programing arent they?

94 was the first year for the DS4 pump (electronic fuel injection). The pump and programming was changed for the 95 model year (and thereafter). The 94 pump will work with most later models, but none of the later models will work on the 94 (without pump and/or PCM mods).

Thats good to hear. MY 95 IP is slowly getting weaker and weaker. All the more reason to get the truck. The 94 IP was new the summer before it was parked.
Will being parked for around 4 years have any really bad effects on the pump? Like possible bad seals?
The only pump that is not universally interchangeable is the pump originally installed on the '94 HD (L65) models. If your new pump is truly new then it is interchangeable (after '94 all pumps were interchangable). If it is a rebuilt '94 pump from an LD engine (L56) it is interchangeable. Only if it is a rebuilt pump from a '94 HD (L65) engine is it not interchangeable.

Ok, from some further reading There are 2 pumps in 94 the 5067 and the 5068. I think the 67 is the one that I need. I'm not sure if it was a reman or new, but it was replaced. Its a 1 ton so I guess there is a good chance it is a 68.
Is there a possibility that the 5068 could work and get me by?
From my rusty old memory:
The HD pump is the 5068 and requires special programming, not available for the '95 model year. If I read Dmax's post correctly, he's saying the pump will work with the later programming. I know the reverse is not true; the later pump will not work with the earlier HD programming. Either way, I'd say it is less than optimal.
There's a silver lining, though. The 5068 pump is sought after by "hotrodders" so you may be able to negotiate a trade.
After 1994 there were no new 5068 pumps. Many trucks received the later pump and the updated programming. It is likely that is your case too. Get a mirror and read the plate on the back of the pump. 5288 is the common replacement, IIRC.

Ok, I'll take a look at it next time I get to where the truck is. I haven't gotten a chance to pick it up yet. I don't have my own trailer and I dont have any room for the truck at my house, living in town SUCKS!
I found a used 5067 pump for sale already, the guy also has an ssd 80hp chip for sale both were off of his 95 3/4 ton, $150 for the chip and 250 for pump.
From what you said I might go ahead and pass on the deal and see what I have on the 94.

tanman, pass on the chip. ssdiesel way over-rates their stuff. just my opinion ;)

I didn't figure it would give me 80hp, $150 just sounded like a good deal until I can get one from Heath or KD. I guess I might as well do it right the 1st time. :D

Does anyone have pictures of where the 5288 code on the pump will be. I looked and found the where it says DS4 and all of the other #'s but I'm having trouble making out what it says. I just need a Pic of the area on the tag to look.
My 95's IP started cutting out today at idle and anywhere lower than 1500 rpm. CEL is on at highway speeds now too. Guess I need to get something figured out pretty quick.
On a brighter note I filled up and got 19.6 MPG
Thanks all

I didn't see 5288 on my 95's pump I know that for sure. What are any other IP #'s that might be on it?
I have been told by someone else that 4831-5068 are the 94 pumps I don't want and all other's are interchangable. Not trying to argue with the info I have gathered from ya'll but the other info sounds better for me.
I can check my 94's # on sunday, If that pump isn't one that I can use I will buy the 5067 i found which was on a 95 3/4ton.
I just want a deffinate answer on the does and don'ts.
Thanks for the patience thus far.

Ok, I read all of the # off the back of my 95's IP. Please help me make sense of it.
reading Driver Side to Pass Side:
DS4831 8136089

There might be errors but I think that is close

Ok, so under closer examination I found my truck has a 5067 IP. My parts truck has a 5068 so thats a no go.
I have heard that 5067 are good pumps for building HO 6.5 is there reason a 5521 from Pensacola would have any less performance?
OK, I had the numbers mixed up. The 5068 is the one that's sought after by hot rodders. The performance boost comes from using the cam ring from the 5068 and other parts from the later pumps. The programming difference is due to the different cam ring profile. The 5288 pump was the same as a 5067 rebuilt with all the updates. A 5067 rebuild should carry a green tag to indicate it is updated. The 5521 is mechanically the same but with an updated PMD, as far as I know. (Also as far as I know, there were no mechanical changes after the 5288 in 1996.)
Bottom line, the 5067 programming will work fine with any [GM] pump except a 5068 and any [GM] pump except a 5068 will work in any application except a '94 HD with original programming.
My '95 had a 5288 (replacement) pump on it when I bought it in '96. That pump was still pumping after 130,000 more miles with one PMD replacement around the 100K mark.
