I found this lying on the frame by the ps pump but couldn't see where it goes. Is it some sort of guard or something? Thanks!

Looks like the shield from the Allioson TCM on the 06+ trucks. I believe it ios more of an arc prevention deal so that you can't short to the case.

Yes shorting to the case can happen as I have sold TCM's for this purpose.

Thanks. Sounds like it should be replaced then. Now that I have an idea what it is I can point my parts guy to the right place. BTW: How does the arcing happen?
