We were towing last week going to the Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio pulling the hills on Route 68 when our truck lost power for about a minute or so and then the check engine light came on. I called On Star and they said they couldn't do diagnostics on the older trucks just the new ones. We have 17,000 miles on the truck. This same problem also happened last year and our dealer updated the computer and it has been fine until now.
We made it to Colombus without any further problems and the truck ran fine .
A Dealer, Couglin GMC/Chevy dealer that sponsers the All American Quarter Horse Congress
took our truck from the fair grounds to one of thier dealerships and checked it out.
They said it needed a turbo vane position sensor. They said it would be three weeks before they could get one because they were on back order. They cleared the codes and the truck ran fine on the way home for about 120 miles and then same thing happened again. It ran fine the rest of the trip. Our dealer at home has ordered the part. I just wanted to say how great the Couglin dealer was, they drove our truck to thier dealership and back to the fairgrounds for us and offered to fix it if we were back in the area in three weeks.
They went above and beyond and are #1 one my book.
Don't get me wrong our Dealer,Bogley Chevrolet back home is great also.
It's just nice to get treated that way when your on a trip.
We are waiting to see how long it is before the part is available. I am glad that our truck is bone stock, I was told that GM is looking for any mod whatsoever on the truck to void the warranty. I would like to put a boost guage and EGT guage on our truck, but if they see that the dealer said GM is taking the position that an engine mod was likely. I guess that would be a fight. Another dealer said that they had gotten a surprise inspection from GM to look at a truck. OH well, I'll let you know how it goes.

Thats BS.

Put the guages on if you want, and tell them it means nothing, other that you want to monitor the health of your engine while towing.

I totally agree, DO IT!

Yep, I'm going to do it. If I would have had the guages, I might have noticed the drop in boost when the vane didn't respond in a timely manner. My dealer said the sensor worked but was slow to respond and that caused the problem.

An '07 LBZ is an older truck? I guess that means I'm driving a real antique.

Our Dealer has ordered the part, but it is going to a while before they can get it unless another dealer in the US has one and will give it up to ship to us.

Keep us posted. I have one locally that did this. Dealer replaced sensor, but it repeated some time later. Only does it when he tows heavy and gets on it hard. We don't believe that it is the sensor.

Cowboy, if you are talking about pulling the hills in Ohio on 68, must have been the big hill out of Ripley off US52 and the Ohio River?? A few more grades to I-71 but nothing like that hill out of Ripley. the other good hills would be in KY.

What coolant temperature did you run on that hill out of Ripley?? With 22000# @ 65mph I run about 242 degrees. bob........................

Is this an issue with just 07's ? Mine is an 07.5 LMM 81,000 on the clock. I was at Congress in the beginning of the month. It's an 8.5 hr haul for me to get there. Coming out of NE PA, pulling a 35 ft trailer. I didn't know Ohio had any hills !!!!!! Good luck with your truck

Ohio has some real nice flat excellent farmland in the center and towards the west central. The southern quarter up around the east and wrapping around the north can produce some good tranny grinding hills. Not the always that long but can be very steep.

Most of the steep hills were in Md & West Va. on 68. Our coolant temp would climb to 240 and the trans to 210. Then the fan would kick in and the coolant temp would drop quickly back to 220. And the tranny temp would slowly go back down to 200 or a little less.
We passed a few of new fords and dodges that were towing also, and they didn't have as big a load as we did. We walked on by them on the hills, They looked a little surprised, one of the dodges passed us going down a hill at 90 + mph. When we started up the next long grade, we pulled by him again, he looked really mad, like he was taking it personal.
I just smiled and waved, I won't say what he did. The only thing that passed us going up a grade besides passenger cars was an empty flat bed being pulled by a conventional pete. I am very pleased with this truck, but the dealer still can't find or get the part for us. He told me that they sent an email to the GM rep last Monday, but no response yet. I'll keep you posted.

Our dealer had another dealer overnight the part last Friday. They installed it same day, I'll let you know how it does next time we tow. I understand that there may be a new upgraded part comming out in 01 of 2010 that will replace them if they fail in the future.
