02' Power Loss

Gents,

My 02' with 86K mi started a new trick recently it loses power and starts blowing black smoke when I step on the accelerator and it down shifts. Then it stays that way until I let off, if I don't step on it the truck runs fine and no smoke.
It started a few weeks ago when I was pulling a trailer with my tractor and implemements on it. As soon as I took the load off the problem went away. Then over the weekend I had a much smaller load on it when it did it again but now it is doing it when I accelerate and the transmission downshifts without a load.

Does this sound like injectors or something else? The only Mod is the air cleaner filter.

[More Power]

Always change the fuel filter as a first step for nearly any sort of diesel engine running problem. This applies to all diesel engines - including the Duramax.

Once that's been done, you can then evaluate any trouble codes or look at fuel rail pressures - for a power issue.
