View Full Version : chugging at high rpm 6.2

I've got a 93 6.2 with 147000 miles on it, and lately I've had a problem that has been getting progressively worse. As I'm going through the gears (5 speed transmission) and the engine gets to about 2500 rpms, the engine starts cutting in and out - it reminds me of how a carburated gas engine runs when it's about time for a rebuild kit. The chugging stops as soon as I shift.

I have not yet but am going to do the simple stuff - fuel additive to clean injectors, change fuel filters, that sort of thing. But was wondering if this is a symptom of a known issue that others have experienced.

Any thoughts on the problem would be appreciated.

Sounds like a fuel filter ready for replacement. Or, your fuel lift pump is trying to leave you. Replace the filter and see where that leads you.

Thanks for the input- I hadn't thought of the lift pump. Will know more after the filter is replaced

Awesome. It is always nice when problems have simple solutions.
