Photo below shows my 929 block with its one crack in the #4 main and the bolt threaded only part way into the Lock&Stitch (Full-torque) insert. Sure do hope it holds for 100K miles or so. If it doesn't, I'll do a followup post when the engine falls apart. Anybody want to bet on this?

All six of the outer holes in the center mains received inserts.

You can see that the crack does not go to the bottom of the hole. I understood from other posts that this was the main limitation when using the inserts - the crack could not extend beyond the bottom of the threads.

When I checked the bearing clearances, this insert did not accept the bolt easily and required 10-20 lbs torque just to snug it up. I was going to tap it but found that my borrowed tap set is all English. Cleaned the hole with some brake cleaner and compressed air and dislodged some fine particles and crud. The bolt threaded easier after that.

Don't know why the machine shop that installed the insert didn't clean it out good. Probably somebody was distracted and missed it.

Wish me luck!
