Well, I think my vacuum pump is going, making
thumping noise, squeals at startup, and clangs once in awhile. 120K miles<
Might as well replace it.

Problem: went to napa got part, could not put
pully on shaft, finially got out the slide calibers.

Shaft .020 bigger than old pump.

Go back to napa, they check parts list, tell me
they have a pump that fits 1995 & 1997,
AH, thats my problem, I have a late 96 with factory dual thermostats. Get the part, measure shaft, YES. this is the one, Back to garage, put on pully, But, can't get bolt in hole? OLD EYES
nope, the hole is threaded on the pump, my old one is threaded in the block,

OK back to napa, Lets try a 98 pump, ok,
NOT , everything is ok, bolt holes, correct size shaft, but whats this shield doing hanging down, looks like a serpetine belt shield .

At this point I gave up, went home and put the old pump back on.

Tryed PArts direct, No vacuum pump part numbers,

I thought all 6.5 vacuum pumps were the same,

Any help with PArt Number,

Off to GM dealer, tommorow.
but hate to pay the extra price...

Rj at this point you are money ahead to buy a turbo master and leave the vacuum pump off. You will need a shorter belt.
I lost your phone number.

I'll call ya, think i still have it.

Tried the turbo master, I think I lost some fuel ilage, also had to get boost fooler to stop from getting code, and " defuel' mode.

Either one of the two pumps will work for you. I have installed the pump with the threaded bosses by drilling out the holes to the correct dia. The shield on the second pump just covers up the exposed part of the pulley.

I'm running an auto-zone vac pump..maybe this helps.

JK also sells the pump with the pulley installed..

Good luck...say hi to Ophelia!

Thanks all, Got a pump from GM, had the belt shield,
Was told all the same pump, Pulled it off.
, Napa had several PN's also Auto zone.

Much quiter, No squeal, thunk or tinny sound.

Also did the Harmonic balancer, Front looked good,
when I pulled it, the rubber on back was showing cracks, and also starting to buldge out...
