Looking at an oil cooler from a '90 tbi K5 for my 6.2L. Is there any difference in the gas vs diesel oil coolers? Are the stock GM oil coolers any better or worse than aftermarket?

If the physical size is the same I'd say its ok to use. If you look at summit racing or jegs I don't think they differetiate gas vs diesel except for size and tubing issues. I'd use 1/2 hose & connections or bigger.

Long Mfg makes a good aftermarket stacked plate very similar to the OE one and has 1/2 NPT connections marketed by different people like B&M. I think they may make the OE one too but the connections are less common not sure what they are called.

Not sure which is better at heat dissipation plate style or radiator style. The plate style seems to work good and is a little tougher.

The 1982 GMC 6.2L diesel I owned had both the engine oil cooler and transmission ATF cooler in the radiator - no external coolers. Though I did add an external ATF cooler.
