As I was cleaning my dash today I noticed a hair line crack in the clear plastic that covers the instrument cluster. When I touched it,it fell right out! It was a surprise to say the least. Is this a common occurrence? Is the clear plastic replaceable?

They will break if impacted, but never heard of one just falling out with no reason. Not at all common. They can be replaced. The I/P lens is shown as a separate part, but no ordering info in the sources I checked. Probably a special order through a dealer or body shop.

Thanks for the info. I dont think that it was hit at all. It really had not even been driven for several weeks so it is a mystery for sure.

I will check with the local dealer and see if they will order it for me.

There's no telling with this. It could have been damaged before or during the original install, impacted/abused at a carwash, overtightened fastener, or perhaps another dash part was impacted, transferring the force to the lens. Who knows?

You can get part number and availability information through www.gmpartsdirect.com. Use the contact link on the website, and specify all the details it asks for, and be specific with the part you need. The actual part nomenclature is "lens, instrument panel cluster", according to one of my GM sources. It's also listed in a GM collision parts catalog.

Great!

How about a part number? This may come up again sometime, and it's nice to have it available for someone who may search for it.

The part# that I posted is not the one for a 2003! I just opened the box and compared it with the one in my truck and the mounting tabs are different and also the hole in the lens for the odo reset is in the wrong place. I will investigate and post the correct # if i find it.

The correct PN for 2003 to 2007 instrument cluster lens is 12205422.
