I'm looking at a 98 3500 that had gas put in it. What has happened to lock it up? I know that its a shot in the dark to see if I can get a good block and crank.
I feel like I should just build the 350 SB and get to driving. Just a old diesel mechanic wanting a diesel in his street rod.

Are you saying someone put gas in the tank, then the engine locked up (engine crankshaft can't be rotated) shortly thereafter?
Id so, it's likely because of piston(s) swelling and grabbing the cyl walls. I haven't heard of this happening before, but I have heard of high combustion temperatures under certain conditions that burned glow plug tips and crazed piston crowns.

The owner said that one of his men put gas in the truck and in a few miles it locked up.

I'd be sure by "locked up" he meant that the engine is seized. I'd think the more likely failure would be the injector pump. However, depending on IP timing, the cylinders and pistons could be a mess, because 21:1 compression ratio leads to detonation...
