Went to lower my drivers window on my 02 crew cab got about half way down and it jammed. Wouldn't go up or down but made snapping and cracking noises. Had to get window back up by hand but would not budge until what ever was jamming it broke loose. Motor still works but what ever attaches it to the window is gone. What appears to be broken and would it be a dealer item only?

This happened to my passenger door window. They are cable driven and most likely the cable broke. Very expensive from the dealer. I think I ended up getting the complete replacement unit from NAPA for $179 or so, which was half the price the dealer wanted. I found the instructions on the door panel removal on one of these sites which was great. Was an easy repair. I think a 10mm wrench and socket were about all that was needed.

Didn't take too long--maybe an hour or less.

Good luck!

You hit the nail right on the head. Broken cable. Got new regulator and motor assy. from dealer for $104. He gave me jobber price because it was in stock other wise $144. Took more time taking the door panel off (without destroying anything) than to replace the regulator.
